Lee Fogg, Technical Director of CAL International, raised funds for The Brick by taking part in charity Sleep Out.

CAL International’s Technical Director, Lee Fogg, took part in The Brick charity Sleep Out at the DW Stadium in Wigan. The Brick, along with Wigan Athletic, held the charity event to raise vital funds and awareness for those who are homeless, in poverty or facing debt in the local area.

Lee, along with his son Matthew, spent the night on Friday 5th April on the concourse of the East Stand at the DW Stadium with only a sleeping bag and cardboard to sleep on. Over 200 people took part in the Sleep Out which attempted to give an insight into what it may be like to be homeless.

The Brick is a small community project which offers services to people who are homeless, in poverty or facing debt. It strives to provide a safe, solid ‘building block’ with which people in crisis can begin to construct new, better lives and become valuable members of society.

Players and coaching staff from Wigan Athletic’s Development Squad also grabbed their sleeping bags and braved the elements to raise money as The Brick aim to buy The Brick Works facility. The Brick Works offers training in order to increase employment opportunities for people who are unemployed for a variety of reasons, including homelessness.

Lee said, “This is my second year supporting The Brick Sleep Out. I was introduced to the charity by a friend of mine and I thought it was a brilliant cause and an amazing event.”

“The Sleep Out is nothing compared to the conditions that homeless people experience daily, but it helps people on the streets of my home town of Wigan so it is well worth a few hours sleeping on cardboard!

“I would like to thank everyone who sponsored Matthew and I, especially my business partner Cliff Kirby who agreed to match fund the amount raised between NeedleSmart and CAL International. This donation pushes the amount raised to just over £1000.

“I would also like to thank The Brick volunteers for organising the night and making it run so smoothly. Good luck to everyone at The Brick; I look forward to the next great fundraising idea!”
