What is Pre-emptive / Preventative Maintenance?
Preventive maintenance is maintenance that is regularly performed on a piece of equipment in order to decrease the likelihood of it failing. It is performed while the equipment is still working so that it does not break down unexpectedly. This type of maintenance strategy falls between reactive (or run-to-failure) maintenance and predictive maintenance.

Traditional corrective maintenance is being replaced by the other three more proactive options to ensure that downtime is minimised or preferably, eliminated. Preventative maintenance basically replaces key components at key milestones whilst the risk and condition based models introduce a level of monitoring to fine tune the preventative maintenance timing.
