In April 2019, Lee Fogg, Technical Director of CAL International, took part in The Brick charity Sleep Out at the DW Stadium in Wigan along with his son Matthew. The Brick, along with Wigan Athletic, held the charity event in order to raise vital funds and awareness for those who are homeless, in poverty or facing debt in the local area. The event involved spending the night on the concourse of the East Stand at the DW Stadium, with only a sleeping bag and cardboard to sleep on.
The Brick Works is a charity which offers training to increase the employment opportunities for people who are unemployed for a variety of reasons. This may include homelessness or recently housed people referred by the Brick, people who have been released from prison, people with mental health issues or people with low employability skills. The fantastic organisation has a small staff team, mentors running their own small businesses, and volunteer mentors. Recycling and reuse is key to the Brick Works.
On Tuesday 11th June 2019, Lee and Matthew traveled to The Brick Works facility in Wigan to present a cheque to the charity from their fundraising. They were also lucky enough to take a look around the building with Louise, CEO of The Brick Works.
The staff take old furniture and donated items and up-cycle them in a workshop. They then have a shop where they sell these newly up-cycled items and the profit feeds back into the charity.
CAL International would like to thank The Brick for their amazing charitable work which is helping so many people in need in the Wigan area. Lee and the CAL team hope to raise much more money for the extremely worthy cause in the near future!
